As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches,a delegation comprised of six influencersfrom Caribbean countries recently visitedHuamei Food, a local bakery company inDongguan that produces cookies, biscuits,waffles and mooncakes.
The delegation had the opportunity tovisit the modern food processing smartfactory assembly line and the productionmolds displayed in the mooncake culturalmuseum.
By making mooncakes in the DIY bakingroom, they felt the connection betweenthe Mid-Autumn Festival and themooncakes, which symbolize familyreunions.

After making mooncakes themselves,Joshua Regrello, a national steelpannistfrom Trinidad and Tobago, admitted thatthe process was not as easy as it looked."By this point, I really am a master," henoted with confidence.
He then showcased his products to thecamera, saying, "It feels like a cloud inthe sky. I imagine it to be sweeter, but it'svery light. If anybody wants, contact me.These are some of my products, all madeby myself from scratch."
Gail Eijk, a journalist from Suriname whoalready has a cooking show in hercountry, noted that she might trymooncakes on her show.
"It's nice. It is not too sweet. I like thetexture," she added.
She then emphasized the differentcultures brought by immigrants in hercountry and listed their typical foods,which serve as a tie between communityidentity and fusion in Suriname.
"We have the Chinese. We have thepeople from India. We have the peoplefrom Indonesia. We have the Creoles.Everyone has their own cultures. All ofthem have festivals like the MoonFestival, where they bring the familiestogether. The beautiful thing is that we allcelebrate all these days together," shepointed out.
As for their representative food, MissEijk told GDToday that people from Indiaeat Roti, a type of pancake with currychicken, peas, and other ingredients.Moksi-alesi is a Creole dish that is verypopular in Suriname. Bami is anIndonesian type of noodles.
"Everybody has their own food, but weall enjoy it together," she added.
Facing the camera, Omari Peters, acomedy blogger from Grenada, evenbecame the ambassador of mooncakesand the Mid-Autumn Festival, deliveringhis wildly enthusiastic endorsement to theaudience.
"To the Caribbean, to the world. This is atraditional mooncake from China. I wishall of us could experience and taste thisbecause it's very good. I wish that I couldbe at the Mooncake Festival one day."
